I encountered this issue and it was so annoying from my favourite browser.  So I researched on it and solved it out. Now sharing with you all, and yes, thanks to xooxoo for help on it.

Problem: When you type a url that you previously visited, chrome does not show it at all. It's annoying to retype whole URL again & again.

Solution (Windows 7):

- Shutdown Chrome
- For Vista go to C:Users[YourUserName]AppDataLocalGoogleChromeUser DataDefault
- Remove all files (or move) starting with "History" to another folder
- Start Chrome - it will recreate the history files it requires

Solution (Windows 7):

- Shutdown Chrome
- For XP go to C:Documents and Settings[YourUserName]Local SettingsApplication DataGoogleChromeUser DataDefault
- Remove all files (or move) starting with "History" to another folder
- Start Chrome - it will recreate the history files it requires

Hint: The history files appear to be SQLite format 3, so you can also get tools to inpect your old history files if needed.

If you practically solved this issue with easy steps for other operating systems, feel free to share.
